關(guān)于Lazy Susan的來歷，史學(xué)上還有不小的爭論呢。這種裝置最早出現(xiàn)在18世紀(jì)中期，被稱作“dumbwaiter”（啞巴侍者）。到了20世紀(jì)初期，lazy Susan這一稱謂才正式出現(xiàn)。有人認(rèn)為它是對懶惰家仆們的嘲弄。但是這種說法不能解釋為什么“l(fā)azy Susan”出現(xiàn)在家仆已不常見的20世紀(jì)，而不是家仆滿街的18世紀(jì)。

一種更有力的說法認(rèn)為，lazy Susan是商家為了促銷而創(chuàng)造的廣告詞。因為“l(fā)azy”和“Susan”都是以“z”音結(jié)尾，讀起來瑯瑯上口，容易記憶，因此lazy Susan一炮而紅，而舊稱“dumbwaiter”卻逐漸被人遺忘。在今天的美國，dumbwaiter專門指在大飯店里面用來傳送食品的升降機(jī)。

The term "Lazy Susan" made its first written appearance in a Vanity Fair advertisement for a "Revolving Server or Lazy Susan" in 1917, although their existence dates back to the 18th century. Prior to the use of the term 'Lazy Susan', they were referred to as dumbwaiters , a term today applied to a small elevator for transporting food.There is no clear evidence as to the origin of the Susan part of Lazy Susan.
