The Caribbean Sea is a sea of the Atlantic Ocean situated in the tropics of the Western hemisphere. It is bounded by Mexico and Central America to the west and southwest, to the north by the Greater Antilles, and to the east by the Lesser Antilles.
The entire area of the Caribbean Sea, the numerous islands of the West Indies, and adjacent coasts, are collectively known as the Caribbean. The Caribbean Sea is one of the largest salt water seas and has an area of about 2,754,000 km2. The sea's deepest point is the Cayman Trough, between the Cayman Islands and Jamaica, at 7,686 m below sea level. The Caribbean coastline has many gulfs and bays: the Gulf of Gonave, Gulf of Venezuela, Gulf of Darién, Gulf of Honduras, etc.
加勒比海位于西半球，地處大西洋沿岸的熱帶地區(qū)。西部和西南部與中美洲及墨西哥相鄰，北接大安的列斯群島，東接小安的地列斯群島。
加勒比海的整體范圍包含：西印度群島以及相鄰海島（包括北部的古巴、海地、多米尼加、牙買加、波多黎各和東部的小安的列斯群島）。加勒比海是世界上最大的咸水海之一?？偯娣e為275.4萬平方公里。海的最深處為開曼海溝，位于開曼群島和牙買加之間，它比海平面低約7,686米。大大小小的海灣環(huán)繞在加勒比海海岸周圍：戈納夫灣、委內(nèi)瑞拉灣、達連灣、洪都拉斯灣等等。
