American engineer George Laurer, the co-inventor of the bar code, died on December 5 at the age of 94.

12月10日，據(jù)BBC報(bào)道，勞雷爾在其美國(guó)北卡羅來(lái)納州溫德?tīng)枺╓endell）的家中去世，葬禮于12月8日舉行。

On December 10, according to the BBC, Laurel died at his home in Wendell, North Carolina, USA, with a funeral on December 8.

條形碼是通用產(chǎn)品代碼（Universal Product Code，UPC）的俗稱。一個(gè)條形碼由不同寬度的黑色條紋和12位數(shù)字組成，它可以幫助識(shí)別商品。IBM設(shè)立的紀(jì)念網(wǎng)頁(yè)上，將通用產(chǎn)品代碼評(píng)價(jià)為“革新了世界上幾乎每個(gè)行業(yè)”。

Bar code is a common name for Universal Product Code (UPC). A barcode consists of black stripes of different widths and 12 digits, which can help identify goods. The commemorative webpage set up by IBM evaluated the universal product code as "innovating almost every industry in the world."
