一提到The Carpenters大家一定會(huì)想起他們的《Yesterday Once More》、《Close to You》等，這對(duì)兄妹組合無疑是七十年代最成功的流行音樂組合之一，他們?cè)诎耸甏踅Y(jié)束演藝生涯前創(chuàng)作了無數(shù)好歌。雖然最先顯現(xiàn)音樂天才的是哥哥Richard，可是妹妹Karen那近乎完美和極富感情的嗓音卻更深地印刻在我們的心里。

　　整個(gè)70年代后期，他們已開始走下坡路。身體欠佳對(duì)卡朋特兄妹的打擊更是雪上加霜：理查德不幸染上了“藥癮”為了戒癮，他在1978年進(jìn)入了一家診所接受治療；卡倫則因?yàn)楣?jié)食而患上了厭食癥。1983年2月4日，人們發(fā)現(xiàn)卡倫暈倒在她父母的房間里。當(dāng)天，卡倫因厭食引起生物功能紊亂導(dǎo)致心臟病發(fā)作，在醫(yī)院里告別人世。

　　《Top of The World》由Karen Carpenter演唱。Karen去世后，有人根據(jù)她的生平拍成一部《The story of Karen Carpenter》。影片里，她是正在唱《Top of The World》這首歌時(shí)，因體力不支，身體太虛弱，突然暈倒在舞臺(tái)上。后被送往醫(yī)院搶救，終因長(zhǎng)時(shí)間患“神經(jīng)性厭食癥”，最終沒能夠挽救她年輕的生命。《Top of The World》成了卡倫的絕唱。
