afford,

它是個(gè)動(dòng)詞，首先，它有支付得起，買(mǎi)得起, 擔(dān)負(fù)得起的意思：

I can’t afford a decent car. 我買(mǎi)不起一輛好車。

Could we afford a holiday this summer? 今年夏天我們有錢(qián)去度一次假嗎？/我們有時(shí)間去渡一次假嗎？

We can not afford the time. 我們抽不出時(shí)間。

Can you afford all the expenses studying in America？你支付得起在美國(guó)學(xué)習(xí)的所有費(fèi)用嗎？

Few could afford the luxury. 很少有人買(mǎi)得起這種奢侈品。

另外，afford后面還可以加動(dòng)詞ing形式，或動(dòng)詞不定式，表示承擔(dān)不起做某事的后果，冒。。。之險(xiǎn)，一般和can或 could連用：
